Why Aussie Hazard Cover?

Because it covers you and your pet against the most common hazardous events your pet could face in Australia.

Cats may be a little luckier because dogs are twice as likely to die from a venomous snake bite. But whether you’re a dog parent or a cat parent, do you really want to risk it? And don’t forget the cars. And the ticks. And the vet bills. They’re expensive.

Aussie Hazard Cover is one of the great services and products that our Silver and Gold members enjoy with their memberships.

What other pet parents are asking

Do I need Aussie Hazard Cover for my pet?

As a loving pet parent, we know you want the best for your pet. Unfortunately, sometimes our pets find themselves in sticky or dangerous situations that require urgent vet care. Veterinary bills for these types of treatments can be expensive, and sometimes hard to budget for! Aussie Hazard Cover cover provides you with peace of mind knowing that you can be reimbursed for your vet bills for the following situations:

  1. Motor vehicle accidents
  2. Snake bites
  3. Paralysis tick bites

How do I make a claim?

Claiming is easy. Once your pet has received veterinary care, simply log into your PetCulture account, fill in the online claim form and provide us with a copy of your itemised invoice and payment receipt. We’ll take care of the rest. Claims are typically processed within 48 hours of receiving all information. If we need more information to process your claim, we’ll be in touch.

When will my Aussie Hazard Cover expire?

Your Cover will remain in place for as long as you maintain your Silver/Gold membership. You are eligible for up to 12 months of cover from your Issue Date.

For full details and condition view the Aussie Hazard Cover Product Disclosure Statement.

Will I be out of pocket?

Aussie Hazard Cover:

Aussie Hazard Cover cover provides you with a 100% reimbursement of your eligible veterinary bills, after your excess has been paid. The excess is $200, and you will need to pay this for each ‘event’ you claim for, each year. You may also be out of pocket if your claim includes items that are excluded from cover or you have reached your benefit limit or insured event limit.

For example, Aussie Hazard Cover does not provide any benefits towards alternative therapies. If your pet suffers from a being in a motor vehicle incident, and requires surgery, your pet’s vet fees, hospitalisation, surgery, and medications are coverable treatments. If your vet also charges you, for say, acupuncture, these acupuncture treatments will not be covered under your Aussie Hazard Cover, and you will need to cover the cost of this treatment yourself.

What am I not covered for?

Aussie Hazard Cover:

Like most policies, we have some exclusions. Aussie Hazard Cover only provides coverage for the following events:

  1. Motor vehicle accidents
  2. Snake bites
  3. Paralysis tick bites

If your pet suffers from an injury or illness that is not one of the stated events (like a skin rash or an ear infection), you will not be covered. Aussie Hazard Cover also has a list of excluded items, such as pre-existing conditions, preventative care treatments, pet accessories (like toys, treats, bedding) and food. You can find a full list of these exclusions in the Product Disclosure Statement below.

How quickly are claims processed?

Claims are typically processed within 48 hours of receiving all relevant information.  If we require more information to process your claim, we’ll be in touch.

Can I visit any vet I like?

Yes. You can visit any licensed vet, other than yourself, in Australia for treatment.

What age can I start my pet on Aussie Hazard Cover?

Aussie Hazard Cover can cover your cat or dog from 8 weeks of age. There is no upper age limit, or cut off for the cover.

How is Aussie Hazard Cover different?

Aussie Hazard Cover allows you to protect up to five of your pets (cats and dogs) under the one policy, rather than paying for an additional policy per pet. We keep our coverage clear and simple. Aussie Hazard Cover allows you to claim back up to 100% of your vet bills for the stated coverable events after your $200 excess has been paid. You can visit any licensed vet in Australia, claim easily online and enjoy your claims being processed with 48 hours.

How does the excess work?

Aussie Hazard Cover cover provides you with a 100% reimbursement of your veterinary bills, after your excess has been paid. The excess is $200, and you’ll need to pay this for each ‘event’ you claim for, each year. For example:

Claim 1:

Event: Broken bone due to a motor vehicle accident

Vet Costs: $4,000

Excess: $200

Reimbursement received: $3,800.

If you have any other follow-up claims for this same event (broken bone) in the same policy period, the excess will not apply to those claims.

Claim 2:

Event: Tick paralysis

Vet Costs: $1,800

Excess: $200

Reimbursement received: $1,600.

As this was a different event that arose in the same policy period, the $200 excess applies.

Are there any claim limits?

Yes, there are limits on the policy.

  1. Annual benefit Limit: Aussie Hazard Cover provides you with up to $10,000 or coverage per year. This is the most we will pay you in benefits in any one policy period. This limit resets each year at renewal.
  2. Maximum number of conditions claimable per policy period: You can claim up to three different events in any one policy period. These events could be across multiple pets, or all for one pet. Once you claim for three separate events in any one policy period, no further benefits will be paid for any future events that occur in the same policy period. This limit resets each year at renewal.

What is the waiting period?

There is a 48-hour waiting period from your policy start date. Any events that arise, or conditions that first display clinical signs within these 48 hours waiting period will be excluded from cover.

What is a pre-existing condition?

A Pre-existing Condition is a Condition that existed or occurred prior to the Issue Date of the first Policy Period or within any applicable Waiting Period, of which you or your Vet was aware, or a reasonable person in your circumstances would have been aware, irrespective of whether the underlying or causative Condition had been diagnosed.
